NHSF Blog: Building Connections – Heritage Science at CIfA2026
This month’s blog post is all about connections! Building on reflections shared by the speakers on the NHSF panel at the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists’ CIfA2026 conference, we look at the ways in which an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to heritage science can unlock new modes of understanding, exploration, and engagement with history and archaeology.
This year, the theme at the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists’ annual conference was ‘Building Connections’. As an inherently interdisciplinary, collaborative field, heritage science certainly fit the bill!
The National Heritage Science Forum was represented by a panel on the second day (Wednesday 29th April), titled ‘Heritage Science: connecting scientific domains through heritage’. The session was chaired by Dr Lore Troalen (National Museums Scotland) and brought together panellists from the academic, heritage, and commercial sectors to ‘explore how heritage science connects different communities of scientific practice to deliver social benefit.’
