Our first conference on the theme 'Trends in Heritage Science' took place on Thursday 10 July 2025, at University College London.

Focusing on 'what's next for heritage science', the conference included presentations and panel discussions, exhibitors, workshops, a poster session and opportunities to network.
The conference explored three main themes:
- The economic value of heritage science – How economists, policy-makers and heritage scientists are working together in emerging paradigms to assess the value of heritage.
- Towards sustainable historic buildings – How heritage science can help, in times of climate emergency, balance the needs of conservation and energy efficiency.
- Digital innovation in heritage science – How future heritage science will integrate digital twins, virtual reality and AI.
Conference declaration: At the end of the NHSF conference, Trends in Heritage Science, participants from academic and heritage institutions across the UK and beyond, including professionals at all career stages and roles, came together to affirm a declaration of the need for heritage science to meet global challenges and demonstrate its capacity to strengthen heritage and society more broadly.
